Our plastic journey

Seeing the trees brighten everything around them with their leaves, Hearing the smooth whistling of birds talking to each other and the overwhelming sensation nature provided are a few reasons why we love hiking at Amp. We frequently go on hikes around the d.m.(V) area where we are able to discuss ideas & dreams we want to make a reality through our own platform. The brisk breeze from the river and the heat of the sun creates a perfect environment for us to have fun walking or running while trying to figure out how to accomplish our goals. However every time that we go out on a hike we see places littered with plastic waste and have always talked about doing something about it.

That conversation turned into a reality by figuring out the materials necessary to accomplish our goal.  We grabbed 5 trash bags, a pack of gloves and our hiking shoes to get ready for the journey. We then decided to go to Potomac Overlook because it was the trail we saw was the most littered and then started the engine and hit the gas. We started of picking up a few pieces here and their at the beginning but the further we went the deeper the bags were filling up where we picked up everything from plastic water bottles to a sandal. As we were cleaning we had a few uh oh moments where we almost fell into the river but was worth it as the whole reason for picking up plastic was to give back to nature as it has given us so much.

Throughout our journey we picked up a lot of trash but saw a. lot of amazing things that only nature can provide from spider webs so long and elastic bigger than my face to different mushrooms species blossoming around the area. We want to remove the trash from nature so more people can wildlife can have fun We ended up filling up a bag of trash each and picking up 3 more along the way where we left fresh & empty bags for future visitors. The hike back was long and hefty but we had the trees to keep us going until we got back to the car. We left leaving Potomac overlook a little bit cleaner but was only the beginning as were going back to progress our Plastic mission.
